Most Newtown Square Homes Were Built for Heat, Then Asked to Cool

The upstairs never cools right, and the vents run loud just to get the air there. One in four Newtown Township homes went up in the 1950s, when central air was rare. Cooling came later, pushed through ducts sized for a furnace. More than a quarter of homes still heat with oil. So the fix starts with the ducts and the fuel, not a bigger condenser. We have done that work across Delaware and Chester County since 1993.

The Newtown Square call we take most. A newer air conditioner on old ductwork, running all afternoon and never catching up. A bigger unit makes that worse, because the ducts were the limit all along. So we look at the ducts before anyone talks about tonnage.

Old Ductwork, Oil Burners, and Every Other HVAC Job We Handle in Newtown Square

Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning Services

Cooling moves more air than heating does, and a duct run sized for a 1950s furnace often cannot carry it. That is why a new condenser in an older Newtown Square house can feel no better than the old one. We check the ducts first and fix the return or the trunk when they are the problem. In a house with no ducts at all, a ductless system usually makes more sense than cutting into walls.

Heating Services

More than a quarter of the homes here still burn oil, and plenty of those burners have been running for decades. We service oil, gas, and heat pumps, so we can keep an oil system running or price the move off it. A cold-climate heat pump carries a Delaware County winter comfortably now, and gas is an option wherever PECO has a main on your street.

A house from the 1950s leaks air at every window and outlet, so winter air inside gets dry enough to crack lips and shock doorknobs. Old basement ductwork leaks too, pulling in dust it then blows upstairs. Sealing the returns, adding a whole-home humidifier, and fitting a cabinet sized for a 4-inch filter do more for that house than a plug-in purifier will.

Water Heater Services

Plenty of oil-heated houses make their hot water off the boiler. When the oil goes, the hot water needs a new home, and that is easy to miss until the first cold shower. We plan the water heater into any conversion from the start, whether that is a gas tank, a tankless unit, or a heat pump water heater.

Why Newtown Square Calls an HVAC Company That Never Sold to Private Equity

We look at your ducts before we size a new system

Air conditioning needs more airflow than heat does. Ducts sized for an old furnace often cannot move it, so a new system ends up straining against them. We check the ductwork first. If it is the limit, a new return or new metal comes before a bigger unit, and we say so before you spend money on equipment.

Every way off oil, priced side by side

Gas, a heat pump, or a newer oil burner. Each one suits some Newtown Square houses and not others. We price the options that fit yours next to each other. When your burner is sound, keeping oil a few more winters is on that list too.

No ducts in the house? We will not cut open your walls

Plenty of homes here heat with hot-water baseboard and never had ductwork. For cooling, a ductless mini-split is usually the cleanest route, with a slim line set outside and no new chases inside. It is also our first suggestion for the single room that always runs hot.

A written warranty on the equipment and on our work

Every system we install carries a 10-year parts warranty and two years on our labor, and you can extend the labor to five. If something fails in month fourteen, you call us and we come back to fix it.

Customers ask for our technicians by name

Anthony, Sonny, and Brandon get requested on the phone all the time. We send a familiar face back whenever the schedule allows, so the technician who arrives often knows your house already.

Still independent while the big names sold

Many long-standing HVAC companies in Delaware County and on the Main Line now belong to private equity firms. We still belong to the people who run us. Nobody above them hands a sales quota to the technician in your basement.

How a Newtown Square Repair Call Gets From Your Phone to Our Schedule

A Technician on the Line, Not a Script

Your call rings in our West Chester office, and whoever answers puts your visit on the schedule before you hang up. There is no menu and no hold music. If the heat is out on a freezing night or the AC gives out during a heat wave, your call moves ahead of routine work. You get the arrival time we can keep, not the one that sounds nicest.

  • Calling after the office closes

The answering service writes down what is going on, and dispatch phones you back within minutes. You find out that evening whether a technician is coming out or whether it can safely wait until morning.
  • Booking on the website or by text

The online form takes requests at any hour, and we reply to confirm the time. A text works just as well. Either way, nobody makes you sit through a phone tree first.

A Clean Mini-Split Install, in One Customer’s Own Words

★★★★★

“Donnie, Peter, Jake, and the entire install crew were fantastic. The mini-split install looks amazing, clean and neat.”

For a house that never had ductwork, a ductless install is the whole job, inside and out. A clean line set and a tidy wall are what you look at for as long as you own the house.

Aronimink, the Square Tavern, and Two More Newtown Square Landmarks

We come down West Chester Pike most weeks and know where Route 252 backs up at the Square. Newtown Square is a place where neighbors compare contractors at the bus stop, so word of a careful install travels from one driveway to the next.

Four Things That Set the Price of a Newtown Square Service Call

$99 to $229Diagnostic

$99 for Comfort Club members or anyone who takes the next open slot, $139 daytime without a membership, $169 after hours for members, and $229 after hours without one. After hours means after 4 p.m. and on weekends. The fee is credited toward the repair.

WrittenBefore we start

You approve a flat-rate price first, so the bill cannot grow while the work is underway.

0%Financing

Wells Fargo, 12 or 18 months, with terms up to ten years for qualified customers.

Comfort Club

Seasonal care from $10 a month for cooling only, or $18.33 a month for heating and cooling. Members get the lowest diagnostic rate and an earlier slot when a cold snap fills the schedule.

Replacing a system works differently. Weighing a move off oil and not wanting to pay just to see the numbers? The in-home estimate costs nothing, and every option is on the table before you spend a dollar.

Talk Through Your Newtown Square System With Someone Who Fixes Them

When you call, you talk to someone who knows HVAC, not a call center reading from a screen. Tell us what you hear, what you smell, or which room will not cool, and roughly how old the house is. We ask a few questions, and you hang up with a time on the schedule.

Call after hours and an answering service takes it, then dispatch phones you back within minutes. Press one and it rings the whole crew. We answer, day or night, and you will know before you hang up whether a technician comes tonight or first thing tomorrow.

Oil, Ducts, Rebates, and Price: Newtown Square HVAC Questions Answered

Still have a question? Call us
How far is your shop from Newtown Square?
Our shop is on Carter Drive in West Chester, about 25 minutes away along West Chester Pike. We have been working in Newtown Square and the rest of Delaware and Chester County since 1993.
Which heating and cooling jobs do you handle in Newtown Square?
Everything that keeps a house comfortable. Air conditioner repair and replacement, furnace and heat pump work, ductless systems, oil-to-gas and oil-to-heat-pump conversions, ductwork, indoor air quality, and water heaters.
Who handles the permit for HVAC work in Newtown Square?
Replacing a whole system or converting fuel usually needs a mechanical or fuel gas permit, while repairs and tune-ups generally do not. We do not apply for permits on a homeowner’s behalf, so arranging one is up to you. In Newtown Township, the Codes Department handles it in house at 610-356-0200, ext. 110, and accepts paper applications only. If your address is in Edgmont, Marple, Willistown, or Easttown, that township’s code office is the one to call.
We still heat with oil. Should we switch to gas or a heat pump?
It depends on three things: whether PECO has a gas main on your street, how old your burner is, and whether the house has ducts. Gas is often the simplest switch where the main exists, and PECO currently pays $400 when a gas system replaces oil as the main heat. A cold-climate heat pump works without any gas line at all. If your oil burner still runs clean, keeping it a few more winters can be the right call, and we will point that out before quoting anything new.
Can a 1950s house in Newtown Square get central air without tearing it apart?
Usually, yes. If the house has ducts, we check whether they can carry cooling airflow and often add a return or replace a trunk line in the basement. If it heats with baseboard or radiators and has no ducts, a ductless mini-split cools the house with small refrigerant lines and no new chases through the walls.
Does PECO pay anything toward a new system in Newtown Square?
Yes. PECO serves Newtown Square for electric and gas. It currently pays $400 for switching from oil to gas heat, $200 or $300 on a qualifying ENERGY STAR heat pump, and rebates on high-efficiency gas furnaces and central air. The application has to reach PECO within 90 days of purchase or installation, so we fill it in with you at the job. Amounts are set by PECO and can change. The federal 25C tax credit ended on 31 December 2025, so it no longer applies.
What does a Newtown Square service visit cost?
Our diagnostic fee is $99 to $229, set by membership and the time of day, and we quote the exact figure on the booking call. Once we know the fault, you get a flat-rate price on paper to approve before work begins. Wells Fargo financing is available on larger jobs for qualified customers.

Have Your Newtown Square Heat Checked Now, Not During the First Cold Snap
