This one is not a judgement call. The heat exchanger is what keeps combustion gases separate from the air your family breathes, and a cracked one means the furnace comes out. What the first year after an install looks like
We come back for the first seasonal visit and verify the things that only show themselves once a system has run through a full season of weather, including how the new furnace is cycling and whether the airflow settled where we set it. We work out how much heat your house loses on a design-temperature night, room by room, and size the furnace to that number. This is the step most commonly skipped, because it takes an hour and it is easier to match whatever was there before. Replacing an oversized furnace with another oversized furnace repeats a mistake you have been living with.

A furnace can only deliver what the ducts can carry, and undersized returns are the single most common problem we find in older Chester County homes. We measure what you have and tell you if it needs work, because putting high-efficiency equipment behind restricted ductwork wastes most of what you paid extra for. The venting
A condensing furnace vents differently from the one it replaces, and that means a new PVC run to code with the right slope and termination clearances. Reusing an old flue on new equipment is both a code problem and a safety one, and it is a corner that gets cut on cheap quotes more often than any other.

The condensate handling

The Best Time of Year to Replace a Furnace in Chester County
A furnace replacement is one of the few home projects where the timing is still yours to choose, at least until the furnace chooses for you. Each season changes what the job looks like and how much room you have to think.
Fall
Fall is the window most families should aim for. The heating season has not started, the schedule is open, and there is time to handle ductwork or venting properly rather than working around a cold house. If the fall tune-up turns up a cracked heat exchanger, you are deciding with weeks in hand instead of hours.
Winter
Winter replacements happen because they have to, and we do plenty of them. The trade-off is that an emergency narrows your choices to what can be sourced quickly, and detail work like reworking a return is harder to do well with the house cold. If you are heading into winter on a furnace you already doubt, that is the conversation to have in November.
Spring
Spring is the calmest time to replace a furnace and the least intuitive, because nobody thinks about heating in April. That is exactly the advantage. You are deciding without pressure, the schedule is wide open, and the system is tested and settled long before you need it.
Summer
Summer is the time to replace a furnace and an air conditioner together, which is often cheaper than doing them eighteen months apart because much of the labour overlaps. If your air conditioning is also near the end, ask us to price the pair.
